Blue Moon Summer Honey Wheat

For my first review, I'm going to talk about the Blue Moon Seasonal beer, the Summer Honey Wheat.

As a lover of the standard Blue Moon Pale Ale, I was very interested to try the seasonal variation. I drank straight out of the bottle rather than with the orange, as is traditional with the Pale Ale.

Honestly, I didn't taste a huge difference between the Pale Ale and the Honey Wheat. There were very subtle honey flavors, and it has the same crisp, fruity flavor of the original. It is considerably less bitter than most beers.

In short, I would say that it is a good beer at a great price, but certainly not best I've ever had. It's a nice seasonal treat if you want a subtle difference from the Pale Ale.

3.5/5.

First Recipe!

The first recipe that I'm going to share with everybody is the "Black Russian"--- using bargain ingredients. The Black Russian is a simple enough recipe-- 2 parts vodka, one part coffee liqueur.

Traditionally, the coffee liqueur used is Kahlua. However, Kahlua is a fairly pricy drink: at my local store, it's $20 for a 750 mL. Instead of using Kahlua I used the much cheaper Kamora, which I got for $11 for a 750 mL. For the vodka, I used Svedka (which I'm sure I will review at a later date: shortly, it's a great deal: $20 for 1.75 L. Not the best straight or in martinis, but great for mixing).

I mixed the two into an old-fashioned glass with ice, and stirred. It had a bit of a kick: not only is it quite alcoholic (being just under 70 proof), but the coffee flavor is very pungent also. The coffee helps to cover up the alcoholic taste quite well, and overall, I would stay it was fairly drinkable.

Synopsis: Easy to make, quite a strong taste, and very cheap. Costs just over $1.50 per drink.

I'm going to try later to infuse Svedka vodka with coffee beans to see how it works with both Black and White Russians.

Happy drinking!
